Flying Vikings’ greatest joy is to assist and help improve the lives of children in our community. This program will touch a child’s life and create memories for a lifetime through a 20-30 minutes plane ride.

Seeing children dream with their eyes wide open at 2000 feet is truly magical.
The program is designed to immerse children ages 6 to 18 years old with a chronic illness or disability into a high flying adventure. Children will be given the opportunity to take the controls of the plane, navigate the sky as they become the pilots.

The purpose of the events is to be fun, relaxed, and a positive experience for the children and families.

About Flying Vikings

Paul Hansen founded Flying Vikings out of a calling from the Lord.
A native of New Jersey, Paul has always wanted to become part of a larger mission and purpose for his life. As a former financier, Paul turned his passion of flying and helping children into a full time commitment. His flying experience extends over twenty years and more than 1000 hours as pilot in command.
The flight program is currently based in Temple, Texas.

Our Pilots

All our pilots are volunteers and have hearts as big as Texas. They have a passion to fly, help, and make a difference in someone’s life.
They all are in compliance with Federal Aviation Regulations:
• Minimum of 500 hours of pilot in command.
• Current with medical certificate by a FAA designated physician.
• Completed a bi-annual flight review.
• Current with all flight standards and ratings.

What a typical Fly Day looks like

The fly days are very well organized and are scheduled in advance. Here, a committee of volunteers alongside the Flying Viking staff is assembled to discuss the day event. This is required to make sure the event runs smoothly since the audience is always changing.

Arrival

Sign in and tour the aircraft with the pilots.

Ground School

This is where the child gets immersed into the event. Here, children will obtain a basic class on aviation by one of our pilots. Now, the child will take this new found knowledge and apply it to an actual flight.

Flight

This will be a 20-30 minutes flight. We will utilize single engine Cessna and Piper aircraft. The child will assist in the pre-flight and taxiing of the aircraft. Once at 2000 feet, we attempt to give the child the opportunity to take control and fly. This will be based on weather, time constraints and other factors taking place on the event day.

Landing

Upon returning of the flight, a keepsake photo can be taken, and our proud young “pilots” will be awarded with a first flight certificate.

Activities

On the ground children and their families will enjoy a day filled with plenty of arts and crafts. A light lunch will be provided from generous local sponsors.
